{"id":4210,"date":"2020-04-30T10:00:47","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T17:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/berkonomics.com\/?p=4210"},"modified":"2020-04-18T10:01:27","modified_gmt":"2020-04-18T17:01:27","slug":"have-you-lost-some-enthusiasm-for-the-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/berkonomics.com\/?p=4210","title":{"rendered":"Have you lost (some) enthusiasm for the job?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, you\u2019ve been at this for years through thick and thin, great days and days in which you\u2019ve had better times.\u00a0 Much of your job has become routine.\u00a0 But it feels good to see your \u201cbaby\u201d grow and others buy into your vision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That daily routine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is human nature for you and every entrepreneur to fall into a routine of taking care of <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3659\" src=\"https:\/\/berkonomics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/questioning-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"213\" \/>day to day issues, meetings, communicating with customers and shareholders.\u00a0 But you remember the thrilling days when everything was newer, each decision an event, each milestone something to be celebrated.\u00a0 If you think about it, you also remember that you spent much more of your time on strategic issues and thinking about the business and its growth, as opposed to thinking within the business about its process issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your value to the company<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your value as a CEO or executive is inherent in creating the vision, providing the drive, and forcing focus upon successful implementation of the vision that you bring to the enterprise.\u00a0 It is where the fun is.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em>[Email readers, continue here&#8230;]<\/em><\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0So, how do you regain that enthusiasm for what is best for you and for the company?\u00a0 There are a number of things you can and should do, and soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Things you can do to regain your enthusiasm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Take a day \u2013 a full day \u2013 off to walk, sit, and think of where you want this company and your role in it to be in the future.\u00a0 Don\u2019t let interruptions from emails, phone calls and people at the door interfere with this focused effort.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call for a strategic planning session<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3415\" src=\"https:\/\/berkonomics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/celebration1-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/>Then call a strategic planning session, off site, for you, your board, your advisors, and direct reports.\u00a0 If needed, hire a facilitator. And provide for someone to take notes.\u00a0 Lay out your vision to those present as a starting point.\u00a0 Ask for comments, challenges, and additions. Then spend the rest of the day developing strategies and tactics to get you there.\u00a0 Finish the process by refining the resulting document, passing it through the same group for comments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The all-company meeting: Get everyone excited about change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then call an all-company meeting to focus everyone on the vision, goal, strategies and tactics.\u00a0 Stand back and watch for the reaction.
