Dave, Of course, essentially every market study I ever did related to a potential investment -- whether pre or follow-on investment due diligence for a venture investor, or for an operating firm considering a new or substantial additional investment in a new/existing product or service offering. It helps too, if a portion of pre-venture investment market research/due diligence can be done independently of the venture firm. When done under the venture investor's name, sometimes there are potential vendor relationships with the potential investee firm that can be enhanced by giving unduly positive responses to the potential venture investor.

As usual Dave, an important point well made.

Great note. It is always easier to fill demand than create demand (someone else said that, but the name escapes me). Market research and product testing (mini launches) are a better investment than the "put it out there and see if someone buys," approach.
